The Co-op Funeralcare is the UK's leading Funeral Director and we understand that, to continue offering exceptional client care, we must ensure that all our people have the required knowledge, equipment and motivation.
Through training and continual development, our colleagues understand the needs and feelings of the bereaved and the importance of spending time helping families to plan a funeral that truly reflects the life of an individual.
In 2012 we introduced the nationally recognised vocational qualification in Funeral Operations and Services. We are currently the only funeral director in the UK providing these professional qualifications.
This pioneering apprenticeship is offered to everyone who works in our funeral homes looking after our clients, and colleagues are given support from their manager and a dedicated assessor so that they can confidently work towards this high quality, industry focused, and nationally recognised qualification.
Since we launched this industry leading development programme, over 2000 new recruits have started a funeral apprenticeship with the business, with more roles expected over the coming years.
This qualification also allows colleagues’ achievements to be recognised in the wider funeral industry and is further proof of their ability to perform their role to a high standard. The skills and competence demonstrated by the individual while completing the qualification will enhance their job performance, which will translate into a more efficient and effective workforce.
Anyone that joins our business in the roles mentioned below will now work towards this qualification, technically making them apprentices.
Our apprenticeship scheme has been recognised by City and Guilds Group, who presented us with a Princess Royal Training Award for excellence in training and employee development. Read more about this here.
There are different levels within the qualification and the level completed will depend on the colleague’s role:
• New Funeral Service Operatives, Admin Arrangers, Funeral Arrangers, Funeral Directors and Principal Funeral Directors will all complete the Level 2 Certificate in Funeral Operations and Services as part of their Apprenticeship.
• Funeral Directors and Principal Funeral Directors will then move onto complete the Level 3 Certificate in Funeral Operations and Services.
After successfully completing this apprenticeship, our colleagues will be fully qualified funeral professionals. As pioneers within the Funeral Industry, we have invested in this unique qualification, so that all of our colleagues have the opportunity to be the best that they can be on all occasions.
