The team at Ivybridge 'Raise the Roof' for their local church

they donated £100 towards a new roof

Way back in 1844, the infamous Rochdale Pioneers founded the Co-operative movement.

Their ‘light-bulb’ moment was to be able to offer an inexpensive alternative to poor-quality food and other household items, with an extra surprise of using leftover profit to benefit the community.

172 years later, we’re still here and going strong – with devotion to our community bigger and better than ever before.

Just last month we launched our Membership initiative, where Members earn 5% for themselves and 1% for their communities on own brand product purchases – with 3 local causes selected to receive the money for 6 months until it switches around to other causes (find out more

So far it’s gone down a storm and we can’t wait to hear about all the ways these causes have benefited over the next few months

On top of this, our teams work tirelessly, each and every day, to carry out little acts of kindness to benefit as many people in the community as possible.

A recent gesture we heard about was from our Ivybridge funeral home in Plymouth, who supported their local Grade 1 listed church, who need to raise a huge £540,000 to get their roof fixed.

Manager, Richard Parson (pictured) and the rest of the team have a close connection with the church in Modbury and were upset to learn about their troubled roof.

They decided to charitably give £100 towards their ‘Raising the Roof’ campaign – so that the beautiful historic church can have the makeover that it needs to continue serving the community.

Their donation meant that they also got to personalise a slate with a message, so that once the roof gets put up, there’s a little piece of Co-op Funeralcare that will always live there.

It sounds like this lovely church has as much history as we do, so to be able to help is brilliant.

Good luck on getting the church back to how it needs to be, and well done to the Ivybridge team for their much-needed support!
