Stanley Funeral Home Supporting Bereaved Children

Helping local primary children talk about loss

Losing a loved one is extremely difficult to cope with as an adult, so when a child experiences a loss it can be especially hard for them to come to terms with. They might find it hard to express how they are feeling and need extra support with their loss.

Easington Lane Primary School felt that their pupils would benefit from some advice, and they approached our Funeral Home in Stanley for help. Garry Wallace was more than happy to help and, along with colleague Lee Watson, donated some of our special Amy and Tom books to the school.

We launched the books back in 2010 in partnership with Sudden (an initiative by the charity 'Brake'). The books help children try to understand the unusual feelings they're having and also gives them ideas on how to cope with the loss of their special person.

If you know a child who would benefit from reading our Amy and Tom books, call in to your local Co-op funeral home who will be able to request a copy for you. Find your local Co-op funeral home details here.

We also have a series of short animated films available for children affected by loss, see here for more details.
