PRESS RELEASE: Community bench donated in memory of Brockley parishioners
it was donated by our team at Brockley
A memorial bench has been installed outside St Andrew’s Church, on Wickham Road, Brockley, to honour the memory of two local residents who were active members of the community.
The bench, which was installed last month, was donated by the local Brockley Co-op Funeralcare team, and the family of Edward and Jean Carter, who the bench is dedicated to.
Both Edward and his wife Jean, who sadly passed away in 2014, were parishioners of the St Andrew’s United Reformed Church for many years. On approaching Co-op Funeralcare for Edward’s funeral, his son expressed a wish to do something for the community and for the Church, in memory of his parents.
Together with local Church ministers, it was decided that a community bench would be ideal. Parishioners who attend the Church would be given the opportunity to sit in the peaceful outdoor space surrounding the Church.
They would be able to take a few moments’ reflection and relaxation before or after a service. Passers by will also have the chance to make use of the bench, as there are currently no places for respite within the community.
Alessandra Cianetti, a Funeral Arranger for Brockley Co-op Funeralcare who helped to organise the donation, said: “I and fellow arranger Laura Gwinnell are so pleased to be able to contribute to this touching tribute.
“To be able to donate a place to take a moment of rest in the beautiful grounds of St Andrew’s Church to our community is something truly special. We do hope the church's parishioners and the local community will use the bench on sunny days to enjoy a peaceful spot in our high street.”
The Brockley Co-op Funeralcare team donated £300 to the memorial bench, which also has a commemorative plaque in honor of both Edward and Jean.
