PRESS RELEASE: Co-op Funeralcare tackles loneliness with community bereavement group
Honeysuckle bereavement group launches in Port Tenant
Rees Davies & Son Funeralcare in Port Tenant launched its Honeysuckle bereavement group over a year ago and has since been supporting members of the local community through the loss of a loved one.
By giving local residents an opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills and support charities close to their hearts, the Honeysuckle Group has been able to tackle loneliness whilst raising money for a number of charities, including Guide Dogs who the group recently raised £611 for.
Research from the Co-op has found that loneliness is one of the biggest issues facing communities across the UK. With the support of the British Red Cross, Co-op continues to work closely with local communities to help tackle loneliness, and the development of bereavement groups is another means of confronting the issue.
Gaynor Gage, Co-op Funeral Arranger, who set up the group commented: “People can be wary of bereavement groups and expect it to be a sombre affair. The reality is that the majority of the time the conversations are so varied and very often the room is filled with laughter.
‘’The group gives individuals a chance to take their mind off of things, meet people who are quite often in the same situation whilst learning new skills. Members of the public who have suffered a loss, whether a friend, family member or even a pet, are welcome to join us.”
The organisers of the group are always on the lookout for other local businesses who could get involved. As such, on Wednesday 7th February the British Red Cross will be attending the group to give a talk about first aid and on 21st February local florist, Victoria Jane Flowers, will be coming along to teach the group how to make floral displays.
Honeysuckle Bereavement Group is held at the St Thomas Church hall in Swansea every Wednesday between 10am and 12pm. For more information about attending the group local residents should contact the funeral home directly via email firstname.lastname@example.org or call them on 01792 456976.
