Olympic fever hits Funeralcare
our Woolwich colleagues took part in a 350 mile cycle
With the 2016 Olympic Games starting in Rio this weekend, it's given us all Olympic fever and we're proud to shout that Funeralcare colleagues have been giving the athletes a serious run for their money.
Garry, Geoff and Ryan from funeral homes in our Woolwich area have put a big fat tick on their bucket list, by completing a vigorous 350 mile bike ride from London to Paris.
They're no strangers to marathons, cycles and other fitness challenges but this was easily one of their hardest tests to date.
They set off in the beaming sunshine on 20th July, and rode an eye-watering 98 miles on day 1 alone.
Over their 4 day journey they faced mammoth hills, a few falls, bruises and grazes and some extreme training of both the body and mind.
On 24th July, the three men finally saw their highly anticipated light at the end of the tunnel, the Eiffel Tower, and met with the 100 other riders who'd taken part in the challenge so they could all enjoy the final leg of the journey together.
They were greeted with a medal, a cold glass of bubbly and had huge smiles on their faces - it was hard going, but they'd made it.
As a well-deserved treat they were then able to soak up the sun and the sights of Paris, before returning home...on the Eurostar (another well deserved treat!).
They're still collecting sponsorship money for our Charity Partnership, tackling loneliness with the British Red Cross, but they're expecting a great amount to have been raised.
Well done, we're seriously impressed with you guys - watch out Bradley Wiggins!
