Kevin has the ride of his life for charity
he 's supporting our Charity Partnership
Usually when it's our birthday we get some nice cards, cake, and if we're really lucky a cold glass of fizz to wash it down.
Bike enthusiast Kevin Keen from our Gwersyllt funeral home, had a very different idea, by motorcycling a grueling 986 miles in 24 hours for the British Red Cross.
He wanted to switch the attention from himself, and rather than receiving birthday treats, he asked all his friends and family to instead donate to our Tackling Loneliness cause, in aid of his adventure.
So off he went at 4am on Sunday morning...
Within the first 200 miles he was already feeling extreme discomfort in his neck, shoulders, wrists, knees and back, and the rain had been beating heavily down.
It was extremely dangerous and keeping up his concentration was tough, but he powered on through and experienced some breath-taking moments.
The sun rising in his wing mirror. The River Severn like a mill pond, with the bridges and banks perfectly replicated in the mirror-like surface. In his own words "stunning".
After a long and challenging day gallantly visiting all three UK cities on his list - Cardiff, London and Edinburgh, he finally arrived back home.
After speaking to Kevin, he told us: "By midnight I had a renewed a deep appreciation for the home comforts of a hot bath and cosy bed! Would I do it again? I'd certainly like to do something along the same lines. What's more meaningful and worthwhile than using our abilities, time and possessions to help those who are less fortunate?
You're a star Kevin and the £700+ that you've raised will be SO gratefully received.
