Bowled over at the International Open

Jamie Chestney was crowned champion

In case you hadn’t noticed yet, we love a good game of bowls and have been proudly sponsoring a number of different tournaments over the years.

People have caught on to the fact that bowls is our forte and always come over for a natter at the matches – which we absolutely love!

Our recent attendance at the World Bowls Tour’s International Open was no different...

The matches themselves were brilliant (if not a little tense) and after a gruelling week – Jamie Chestney was crowned the Co-op Funeralcare International Open champion!

The bowls isn’t just about the skill of the game, it’s also a fabulous social occasion.

We have proof in the pudding from speaking to visitors, that going along helps them to meet people and helps eliminate loneliness. This reflects our Charity Partnership mission with the British Red Cross perfectly.

Speaking of the British Red Cross – we managed to raise £70 from our Red Tombola at the International Open, as well as £431 for “Hug in a Bag” – a local cause in Blackpool that is one of our current 1% Membership beneficiaries (more details about Membership can be found here:

The aim of “Hug in a Bag” ( is to give one more hug to breast cancer patients. The charity do this in the form of a bag containing gifts and information leaflets, which we think is beautifully touching.

Our next bowls venture will be the European Masters from Thursday 4th May – Sunday 7th May at Newton Hall Holiday Park in Blackpool.

Maybe we’ll see you there?!
