'Blind Date' with a book

a book sale with a twist

If you've never had a 'blind date' before, then now's your chance...

Colleagues from our Boldon Colliery funeral home in Tyne and Wear have come up with the amazing idea of having a blind date with a book, to raise funds for our Charity Partnership - tackling loneliness with the British Red Cross.

The team so far have a collection of around 50 books that have been donated by generous friends and family members. Each book has been lovingly wrapped in brown paper and tied up in string, including a crypic tag with clues about the book in the style of a 'lonely hearts' ad.

The idea is for people to choose a book and make a donation, the only rule is they're not allowed to unwrap the book until they get home.

The team did the same initiative last year and it was hugely successful...even their local Mayor came along for a blind date!

It looks as though this quirky idea to raise money is really going to catch on, with one of our Co-op Group Fundraising Advisors calling it her 'favourite co-op fundraising idea of the year' on Twitter, as well as our Boldon Colliery team's sights being set on it spreading across the region for other colleagues to get involved in.

We think it's an absolutely brilliant idea, so for all you book worms out there - get blind dating!
