69 years of service!
John Hush retires from the Co-op
What do you get when you cross a hardworking and devoted gentleman who has Co-op DNA running right the way through; with a business that’s been the backbone of our communities for so many decades?
You get 69 years of service - that’s what you get.
And the man in the spotlight is Mr John Hush, our longest serving colleague ever!
With such a fantastic achievement under his belt, it’s only too right that he deserves some “me” time, and today welcomes his retirement after his amazing run with Co-op.
He’s added many strings to his bow during his time with us – starting off in Castlegate as a Joiner, Cabinet Maker and Wheelwright (one of his early jobs was repairing the wooden wheels of the horse-drawn delivery carts!), before sometime afterwards taking 2 moves to bigger and better premises in Tweedmouth.
Here is where John was recognised for his brilliance and was promoted to Manager.
In this new position he was able to do a job that he’s truly loved - taking care of the families of Berwick who had sadly lost a loved one.
His work family said goodbye in style last night, by hosting a party where they presented him with a Long Service certificate, and showered him with gifts including a cake, balloon and his very own bagpiper.
John hands over to Edward Foxton (pictured, left) and Alistair Bowell, local Funeral Directors at Berwick Funeralcare, who know they have big boots to fill.
The time and dedication you’ve put into this business is hugely commendable John. We’d like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you’ve done for us.
Enjoy your time away from work, being a gentleman of leisure!
