Right by you in Gateshead

We’re passionate about helping the people of Gateshead to keep loving life. That’s why even after Simon and the team have closed up at the end of the working day, they set about helping their local community.

Whether they’re providing refreshments at Windy Nook Park Run or supporting the local Rainbows Girlguiding group, they always strive to do right by the people of Gateshead.

Because they’re not just here to help you through the bad times. They’re here to help you through the good times too.

Read Simon’s story and you’ll see what we mean.

My name is Simon and I work as a Funeral Director at Co-op Funeralcare Gateshead, alongside a dedicated team which has been part of the local community for over 30 years.

Here in Gateshead, working with the community is as much a part of our job as our usual nine to five. There are a number of local projects that we’re committed to, but our team always goes above and beyond when we’re needed.

Just like when we helped Whitehills Community Centre with their ‘Jo Cox Great Get Together’.

My colleague, Craig Robson, lives across the road from the centre and so was keen to help as much as possible. He oversaw the majority of the organisation and the rest of the team got involved too.

We used our contacts within the Co-op community to provide refreshments and hot dogs for the event, as well as bedding plants to be given out on the day.

The day was a huge success and Whitehills were overwhelmed by the team's kindness and willingness to help.

Becoming even more connected with our community is something the whole team is excited about, and personally I can't wait to get stuck in.
