Tackling Loneliness

In 2015, the Co-op launched a campaign alongside the British Red Cross to tackle loneliness. Our research showed bereavement to be a key trigger in the cause of loneliness and as a result we’ve grown our network of social groups for the bereaved. We currently host 70 bereavement groups around the country to provide people with ongoing care and social support.

Alongside the British Red Cross, and with Cruse Bereavement Care we launched ‘More than words’ a new scheme which sees 12 social groups being set up to support the bereaved in meeting people centred around a hobby or interest and talk about their grief (should they wish to) with people going through a similar experience.

We’re also proud to support Brake’s “Someone Has Died Suddenly” children’s books and adult guides. The books are available (free of charge) across all of our funeral homes and are designed to help children understand death, what happens when someone dies and the emotions they may be feeling.
